Role Description

Underwriters use this risk score to more accurately predict an individual or group’s future claim costs and improve financial performance. Reporting to the Predictive Modeling Manager and joining a team of five, the Predictive Modeler will be integral as we continue to bring innovative products to market in response to client needs and opportunity. The Predictive Modeler will build upon their programming, actuarial, and/or data science experience to develop intimate knowledge of our current product capabilities and provide advanced analytical expertise to enhance these products. Based on client and market opportunities, projects will likely involve construction, validation, documentation and delivery of sophisticated predictive model solutions for a variety of insurance-related problems. Further, the Predictive Modeler will work closely with IntelliScript leadership to support business development.

  • Become an expert in the development and deployment of our predictive models for the predictive modeling team and coordinate with IT, product, and other departments as needed
  • Update and maintain our existing codebase for predictive models and products and help bring new products into production
  • Audit, peer review, and improve predictive models built by other team members
  • Advocate and research technology to keep the team up to date on modern software practices

Professional Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of professional experience in programming, data science, and/or actuarial science (or a closely related discipline)
  • Programming experience in at least two of: R, Python, and SQL
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (computer science, actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, predictive analytics, economics, finance, business, etc.)
  • Willingness and desire to learn machine learning, programming, data science, or actuarial science concepts as necessary to perform job functions

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Actuarial or insurance experience up to and including ASA or FSA designation, or pursuing actuarial credentials, and/or advanced degree in a relevant field (computer science, actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, predictive analytics, economics, finance, business, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Docker, Cloud Computing, or Version Control
  • Experience building predictive models using multiple linear regression, decision trees, or other techniques
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including VBA, Word, PowerPoint and Access, and Excel
  • Past experience working in a HIPAA / PHI / PCI compliant environment


This position is open to remote work, with the exception of Colorado residents. Applicants must be willing to work onsite in the Milliman offices in Chicago, IL and Brookfield, WI as needed. All employees are currently working remotely with no travel and will do so until such a time when we can return to the office safely and resume regular travel (anticipated to be no sooner than July 2021).
