Saab AB, Training & Simulation is developing simulation systems for military training including high performance optical systems. As part of this, we depend on being able to make surfaces inside optical devices with low reflection to minimize ghost images and stray lights.
We now want to go further in terms of understanding how the processing and surface treatment of different surfaces affects absorption and reflection. In addition, we must be able to manufacture mechanical components with such surfaces rationally and at low cost with high and consistent quality.
Description of the master thesis
A master thesis in the area will include literature studies, contacts with manufacturers and production of test objects as well as evaluation in our measuring equipment.
We have recently invested in advanced measuring equipment to be able to determine the optical properties of different surfaces at the wavelengths that are critical to us. The goal is to define verified standard methods that can be used in future products.
This Master Thesis is suitable for one student with interest in the optical properties of mechanical surfaces and surface treatments. You are at the end of your Master in machine design with focus on material technology and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP.
What you will be a part of
The work can be performed at Saab AB, Training & Simulation in Huskvarna. With us, you have access to experienced colleagues in mechanics, materials technology, optics and radiometry. We also have a well-equipped prototype workshop and extensive environmental testing equipment.
